How does BDS communicate with parents?
Communication, collaboration, and transparency are core values at BDS. A communication log is sent home on a daily basis, providing parents and caregivers important details about the school day. Ongoing communication via phone calls and emails takes place between the student’s school team and family throughout the week and as necessary. Progress reports are supplied on a quarterly basis and are aligned with IEP benchmark dates.
How do you determine IEP goals?
IEP goals are developed by the student’s IEP team, including special education teachers, parents/caregivers, and other designated instructional service providers. The school district is also an essential part of the IEP team. Members of the IEP team use multiple methods that may include direct observation, work sample review, collaboration with other professionals, and skills assessments.

BDS has an extensive library of specialized curriculum available to all students and classrooms. Curriculum materials are determined on an individual basis based on the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).
What is the procedure for visitation? Can I simply drop in to see my son/daughter in his/her classroom?
Parents are encouraged to visit the classroom. We can set up a video observation or you can sit directly in the room. Advanced notice is appreciated so that scheduling conflicts (other parent visit, district observation, student on community-based instruction or CBI) are prevented.
Does BDS have transportation service offered to/from the school?
BDS offers door-to-door transportation services to and from school. Trained BDS staff provides support to students during the trip and our vehicles are equipped with GPS technology, allowing our transportation team to be in constant communication with staff back on campus.
